Overview

Update to the maritime security situation in the waters off East Sabah and Southern Philippines, in particular, the Sibutu Passage.
Following the serious piracy incident concerning the abduction and murder of a crew member on board the Giang Hai on 19 Feb, the following advisory is published for further information.

The International Fusion Centre has now reported a total of 37 incidents in this area, of which 17 have included abduction of crew, since Jan 2016. There is growing concern that regional action is required to prevent further incidents and BIMCO is monitoring developments closely.
