Calcium nitrate UN 1454

Description

Important note: according to the IMSBC Code, this schedule shall NOT apply to those commercial grades of calcium nitrate fertilisers consisting mainly of a double salt ( calcium nitrate and ammonium nitrate) and containing not more that 10% ammonium nitrate and at least 12% water of crystallisation.

 

White deliquescent (ie, tends to absorb atmospheric water vapour and becomes liquid - dissolving mass) solid, which is soluble in water. Bulk density: 893 - 1,099 kg/m3. Non-IMSBC Code information: used in pyrotechnics, explosives, matches etc. 

 

Trade Names (Synonyms)
Lime nitrate -nitrocalcite - lime saltpeter - Norwegian saltpeter- calcium dinitrate - calcium saltpeter -nitric acid, calcium salt.
