Description

A nut which is edible and tan-coloured. Moisture content varies. Very dusty. Bulk density: 304 kg/m3. Non-IMSBC Code information: it is also called groundnut or earthnut. Valued for its high oil content (averages about 45% of its weight). Note that the colour may vary from light brown to reddish brown depending on the country of origin and the colour of the soil. Size of the peanuts also vary depending on the same factors. Contains high protein content of 24-35 % and is regarded as one of the world's most staple foods following wheat. Can be eaten fresh or intended for oil extraction (e.g., vegetable oil production, butter, peanut butter etc). |
