Description
|
Residual product of the steel-making process (steelworks blast furnaces). It has a dirty, grey, lumpy-like appearance in granulated form. Has iron content of 0.5%. Bulk density: 1,111 kg/m3. Non-IMSBC Code information: it is basically molten slag broken up into granules and quick quenches. There are 3 general methods of granulation; namely (a) running the molten slag into a pit of water; (b) using a jet of high-pressure water to break up the stream of molten slag as it falls into the pit; and (c) using a mechanical revolving device with relatively small amounts of water. Used mainly for road construction. It is also primarily grounded into a cement known as ground granulated blast slag.
