Trading restrictions imposed against Bahrain

Trading restrictions imposed by Bahrain

  • Arab League's Boycott of Israel: Bahrain's Position
According to information received from local contacts only the primary boycott prohibiting member states from engaging in direct trade with Israel is being enforced. For example, the following are not allowed  to call Bahrain

    - Vessels of Israeli flag / registry.
    - Israeli owned, operated and/or managed vessels.
    - Vessels with Israeli crew / officers on board.
    - Vessels carrying Israeli cargo.

The secondary boycott prohibiting trade with companies trading with Israel and the tertiary boycott prohibiting contact with companies trading with blacklisted companies are no longer enforced.

However, vessels having called at an Israeli port directly prior to calling at a Bahrainian port or terminal will be denied entry / permission to berth.

  • Iran
According to reports the following are banned from Bahrain ports:
    - Iranian flagged ships
    - Ships that call directly from an Iranian port
    - Ships that have called Iran within the last 3 ports of call must first obtain authorisation from the Bahrainian authorities.

  • Qatar
The Ports and Maritime Affairs at Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications has declared that all Bahrain Ports and territorial waters will remain suspended for marine navigation from and to State of Qatar effective from 6th June 2017.

  • United Nations Security Council Resolutions
