The European Commission (EC) has listened and reacted to industry’s concern about adhering to the upcoming deadline on 31 December 2020 for the European Union’s Ship Recycling Regulations (EUSRR) inventory of hazardous materials (IHM) owing to the disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. The new EC guidelines give shipowners a limited but welcome respite by applying a harmonised approach for a period of 6 months after the entry into application of the IHM obligations.

The programme is practical in scope, with a visit to the Port of Antwerp and presentations on contemporary topics like global regulations affecting shipping and their commercial strategies, sustainability efforts in shipping, and an overview of shipping as a critical infrastructure component in global trade.
The spring meeting of the Documentary Committee, chaired by Francis Sarre, was held in Rome on 6 June. The sixty-strong committee discussed an extensive and diverse range of documentary projects and approved for publication three new contracts and one clause.
