It is widely reported that the cyber threat landscape is worsening for maritime organisations. But how is the threat landscape really developing and what are the most likely scenarios which the industry should be aware of? Norwegian Maritime Cyber Resilience Centre - NORMA Cyber has been operational for three years and has more than 100 member organisations and 2,500 vessels among them. One of the things they do is to monitor the threat landscape on a day-to-day basis for their members and handle cyber-related incidents. In this presentation, Managing Director Lars Benjamin Vold will provide an overview of NORMA Cyber's assessment of the maritime cyber threat landscape and how this is likely to develop in the near future. Cyber risk and autonomous ships

BIMCO has submitted four papers to the Maritime Safety Committee. The papers discuss how autonomous ships should be tried before they are allowed to operate, and that cyber risk management should be part of the ship’s Safety Management System.

US to impose tough Port State Control measures on Cyber risk management

United States requires all ships, U.S. flagged ships and foreign flagged ships that call on ports in the U.S, to ensure cyber risk management is appropriately addressed in their safety management system by the company's first annual verification of the Document of compliance after January 1, 2021. Failure to this requirement may result in detention of ship in US port.

New recommendations on building cyber resilient ships

The International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) has publicised a new recommendation on how to build cyber resilient ships. It applies to the use of technical systems that provide important functions on board such as control, alarm, monitor, safety and internal communication.
