Owners, managers, and not least the seafarers, are still suffering with COVID-19 challenges of crew change as different nations adopt different policies. Why is it lasting so long? Use of the “Crew change and deviation clause” far outweighs the “no crew change” clause. BIMCO’s regional manager in Asia, Wayne Zhuang, examines some of the challenges surrounding crew change during the pandemic and as the war in Ukraine adds new challenges to existing problems for owners, managers, and our seafarers.

Amendments 2022 to MLC, 2006 - Improvement of financial security system, repatriation process and health and welfare facilities for seafarers

The fourth set of amendments made to the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 as amended (MLC 2006) relates to providing better protection to seafarers in the financial security system and improving the seafarer repatriation process as well as the overall well being of seafarers in terms of medical care, recreational facilities, personal protective equipment, food and amenities to be provided.
