Sentiment remained firm in the newbuilding contracting activity. Orders have surfaced across all main sectors indicating a healthy buying interest.
Newbuilding ordering activity has been rather muted across most sectors during the past week.
The shipbuilding market activity appeared quiet last week, which is more or less expected, due to the continuous lockdowns and operations disruption in China.
Τhe LNG newbuilding activity remained strong last week, with a massive newbuilding deal signed by the Chinese CNOOC, while interest for the rest of the sectors remained limited.
The LNG and Container newbuilding deals continued firmly last week, with seven new LNG contracts from NYK and one more from the Norwegian Knutsen, while eight-teen Containers were ordered from SITC and Seaspan, followed by six new contracts for Aframax tankers, ordered by the Greek owner Navios Group.
Reported activity on the newbuilding front remains firm for yet another week, with containers once again being the most popular sector, while after almost two months of inactivity, a fresh tanker contract emerged last week.
Last week, the newbuilding contracting activity saw a huge volume of Container units across all type of sizes. The exceptionally positive conditions in the boxship sector, continue to strengthen owners’ interest after their historical profits during 2021.
The newbuilding market continues to be fuelled by the owners’ insatiable hunger for Container units.
Activity in the newbuilding market resumed last week, with the recently rumored contracts consisting mostly of Container units, while after three weeks of muted bulk carrier contracting action, a notable order came to light last week.
