The BIMCO Documentary Committee (DC) will be meeting on 18 May – it will be the first physical meeting since the start of the pandemic. Four important projects are up for adoption: ETSA, the CII Compliance Clause, GENCON 22 and the IOCD Clause for Time Charter Parties.

January ended with the container units having the lions ‘share of the 2022 orderbook with a total of fifty boxships being ordered followed by thirteen LNG vessels, eleven bulk carriers, and only two MR2 tanker units. The same momentum is being witnessed in February as well, with containers almost monopolizing last week's newbuilding list.

The first newbuilding contracts of 2022 signals an exciting January for the newbuilding market. The trend follows the same pace of the previous year; LNG units are having the lion’s share among the recent projects with Boxship sector following closely. The newbuilding market activity was in line with the course that we have been witnessing since the start of the year. Crude carrier units were missing for another week while LNG and container deals were present as always despite the increasing newbuilding prices.
