Stephen Mackin is a lawyer at the international law firm Clyde & Co and he specialises in shipping and energy related issues particularly those arising from the carriage of oil and gas by sea. Stephen qualified in 1994 and was with Eversheds Sutherland for 25 years before joining Clyde & Co. He speaks regularly at conferences worldwide. He has spent five years with Shell Tankers (UK) Limited and has practical experience of the operation of VLCC’s, product tankers, LNG tankers and bulk carriers. He was Shell’s “cadet of the year”, a watch-keeping officer with Operation Raleigh and has sailed the Atlantic on a Tall Ship. He is regarded by Chambers Directory as a “leader in his field” and described as being the person you want on your side when you have a dispute.
We’re scaling up our direct engagement with you, our members. Earlier this week, around 20 ship managers joined the relatively new BIMCO Ship Manager Advisory Panel for a debate about how to handle the EU ETS in practice. Also this week, the very first meeting took place in the BIMCO Bunker Buyer Network where around 20 bunker buyers among our owner members met to address some of the topical issues related to bunkering. Among other topics, the network reflected on upcoming GHG regulations and debated topics for future meetings as the nature of the networks are user driven.
Although the container ship “Ever Given” was fortunately freed after less than a week blocking the Suez Canal, the consequences for owners and operators due to the delays caused may last for several weeks or even months.
