Ahead of President Biden’s Leaders’ Summit on Climate, the world’s major shipping organisations have called on world leaders to urgently examine the role of market-based measures (MBMs) to ensure ambitious decarbonisation targets are met across the entire global shipping industry.
BIMCO, the world’s largest international shipping organisation, has now launched an anti-corruption clause for charter parties. The new clause will give owners and charterers a contractual platform for cooperative action to resist demands for illegal payments from port officials and others.
On 4 June BIMCO, together with ICS, IMCA, ITF and OCIMF, had arranged a symposium about piracy in the Gulf of Guinea. The symposium came to the conclusion that the Nigerian piracy problem occurs in a small area and can be solved if Nigeria wants it.
