Ammonium nitrate UN 1942

Description

The Bulk Cargo Shipping Name (BCSN) for this entry is "Ammonium nitrate UN No 1942 with not more than 0.2% total combustible substances including any organic substance calculated as carbon, to the exclusion of any other substance". They are white/colourless crystals, prills or granules, wholly or partly soluble in water. 

 

Note: this entry should be used for substances that do not exhibit properties of Class 1 when tested in accordance with Test Series 1 and 2 of Class 1 ( see UN Manual of Tests and Criteria, part 1). Bulk density: 1,000 kg/m3.

 

Non-IMSBC Code information: highly hygroscopic (i.e., taking and retaining moisture quickly) and supporters of combustion. Used as fertilisers, explosives/pyrotechnics, herbicides/insecticides, ingredient for freezing mixtures, nutrient for antibiotics, yeast & catalyst.
