The European Union's Naval Forces (EUNAVFOR) and the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) have jointly published an Internationally Releasable Threat Assessment (IRTA). The report details how the ongoing conflict in Yemen, coupled with the capabilities of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and missiles, could pose a significant threat to merchant ships registered under nations actively involved in the Yemen conflict.
In response to the threats arising from the conflict in Yemen, BIMCO, ICS and INTERTANKO have published interim guidance on maritime security in the southern Red Sea and Bab al-Mandeb. Shipowners and operators should be aware of new threat patterns in the area.
