Harbour

Marsden Point has two oil jetties which serve the New Zealand Refining Company. Northport Ltd has a three berth facility up hrbur of these jetties.

Description of Jetties
"T" jetty system, two dolphin berths, approximately 300 m apart. Both berths consist of a concrete platform 25m long. This platform supports the hose gantry and other ancillary equipment. A fendering system of dolphin pile structures is situtated in front of each jetty.


No 1 JETTY
Feedstock, syngas and reformate discharge. Black and white products and bitumen loading. Heavy fuel and diesel bunkers.


No 2 JETTY
Feedstock, reformate and syngas discharge. Black and white products and bitumen loading. Heavy fuel and diesel bunkers.

Maximum draft alongside NZRC jetties:15.34 m.

No 1 Jetty (Eastern)
Maximum length 304 m
Maximum freeboard* 17.5 m
Maximum displacement 147,000 t for vsls LOA < or = 304 m
163,000 t for vsls LOA < or = 274 m
Minimum size vessel 15,000 S.D.W.T

The Marine Controller will consider accepting vessels under 15,000 SDWT, on individual basis, providing the length of vsl parallel sides exceeds 50m, the LOA exceeds 91m, and manifold and mooring equipment are compatible with NZRC facilities.

No 2 Jetty (Western)
Maximum length 304 m
Maximum freeboard* 15.0 m
Maximum size vsl is a vsl which when fully laden displaces 65,000 tons. Larger vsls partially laden to 65,000 tons displacement are not acceptable.
Minimum size vessel 15,000 SDWT.

The Marine Controller will consider accepting vessels under 15,000 SDWT, on individual basis, providing the length of vsl parallel sides and the LOA both exceed 70m, and manifold and mooring equipment are compatible with NZRC facilities.


*) Freeboard in this case is measured from the manifold to the surface of the water and this restriction reflects the maximum safe operating height of the gantries.


BERTHING
Vessels with a displacement in access of 49,550 Tonnes berth at slack water only, portside alongside. Other vessels berth according to the run of the tide. Beerthing is carried out on a 24 hr basis.

The East/West berth is designed as a 2 berth facility to accommodate 2x 180m LOA vsls. Other length combinations can be accommodated.
These, open as of July 2002, will be mainly used for the export of forest products.
