All vessels destined to arrive at the Port of Itaguai in ballast will be required to carry out a Mid Ocean Ballast Water Exchange prior to arriving in Brazilian Waters.

The purpose of this exchange is to limit the possibility of transferring non-indigenous species into Sepetiba Bay sheltered waters.

Refer to IMO Resolution 868(20): Guidelines for Control and Management of Ships Ballast to Minimize the Transfer of Harmful Aquatic Organism and Pathogens (1998 edition).

It is recommended to keep detailed record of this water exchange program, since on arrival to the port, during the official visit of the Brazilian Authorities, Master has to deliver to the Health Authorities and to the Port State Control, a copy of the Ballast Water Reporting Form.
