Amendments 2022 to MLC, 2006 - Improvement of financial security system, repatriation process and health and welfare facilities for seafarers

The fourth set of amendments made to the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 as amended (MLC 2006) relates to providing better protection to seafarers in the financial security system and improving the seafarer repatriation process as well as the overall well being of seafarers in terms of medical care, recreational facilities, personal protective equipment, food and amenities to be provided.

BIMCO submits proposal to IMO to extend BWM experience-building phase

BIMCO has submitted a proposal to the upcoming Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) 77 with the aim to extend the experience-building phase (EBP) associated with the International convention for the control and management of Ships’ ballast water and sediments, 2004 (BWM Convention). The extension is deemed necessary due to slow progress of the data collection phase.
