BIMCO and CIRM software log is now ISO standard 24060

BIMCO and CIRM (Comité International Radio-Maritime) have taken the concept of the onboard software log to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) to automate and modernise it. As a result, the ISO has published a new standard on a ship software logging system to be used for operational technology onboard ships.

At the meeting, the associations affirmed the industry’s commitment to universal recognition for seafarers, the decarbonisation of shipping and addressing the threat to shipping from piracy in the Gulf of Guinea.

IMO sets the course of new regulation of maritime autonomous ships

Perhaps it was a blessing in disguise as the Maritime Labour Convention’s amendments were timely to take into account the experiences which the shipping industry has had in particular with seafarers . BIMCO sees th is as a major step to improving the protection of seafarers especially for cases where they have been abandoned or are in need of medical assistance or basic entitlement to internet access on board ships as well at ports.
