Business case: Marine gas oil or scrubbers when operating in an ECA?

Shipowners are faced with a number of important decisions in terms of investment and trading if they want to do business within the future sulphur limits of Emission Control Areas (ECAs). The deciding factors influencing the investment decision for installation of a scrubber are the fuel cost spread and the time spent in an ECA. In this article, BIMCO has tried to abridge the issue to facilitate decision making.

BIMCO demands 4th IMO GHG Study based on realistic economic growth

BIMCO has proposed that the Fourth International Maritime Organization (IMO) Greenhouse Gas Study does not include unrealistically high gross domestic product (GDP) growth projections to predict future transport demand - and thereby emissions - of the shipping industry. The proposal has been made to the expert workshop preparing for the study, which is meeting in London 12-14 March.

A cargo that is extremely highly reactive in the presence of water, reacting with air to produce hydrogen, a flammable gas and heat.  The explosion and tragic loss of life on "Ythan" in 2004 as well as the deliberate sinking by the French Authorities of the “Adamandas” (2003) with her cargo and bunkers on board culminated into a new cargo entry called Direct reduced iron ore fines in the International Maritime Solid Bulk Cargoes ( IMSBC ) Code.
