The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore has decided to prohibit the use of open-loop exhaust gas cleaning systems within its port limits, as of 1 January 2020.
MPA chief executive, Andrew Tan, announced the new regulation, which is already part of current legislation, in his opening address at the Singapore Registry of Ships Forum.

BIMCO is very satisfied with the Green House Gas (GHG) strategy adopted by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) at the Marine Environment Protection Committee on April 13. The strategy outlines a target to reduce GHG emissions by at least 50% by 2050 compared to 2008 while pursuing efforts towards phasing them out.

The 75th session of the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC 75), which took place online from 16 to 20 November 2020, continued the deliberations on reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from shipping, but also adopted amendments to MARPOL Annex VI and the International Ballast Water Management Convention (BWM Convention).
