BIMCO has started a discussion with members with the aim to provide a set of definitions that are practical and clear to stakeholders in the shipping industry when discussing climate change.
The BIMCO Documentary Committee (DC) will be meeting on 11 October. The agenda includes six projects up for adoption: CII Clause for Voyage Charter Parties, Ship Sales Further Trading Clause, ETS Allowances (ETS) Clause for SHIPMAN, Quiet Enjoyment Letters, SYNACOMEX and WRECKSTAGE.
Piracy in the Gulf of Guinea is an unacceptable burden to seafarers and shipping companies. Around 40 ships have been attacked in the Gulf of Guinea in the past 12 months. Most recently, six seafarers were kidnapped from the MSC Mandy, which was on the way to Lagos, Nigeria. BIMCO asks, on behalf of its members, that maritime powers increase their presence and expand their collaboration with local states to curb piracy.
At BIMCO, we believe there's more chance of solving the plastic crisis if many people take small steps in the right direction. On ships, even if plastics are sorted, managed and discharged to shore in a proper way, the mismanagement of that waste on land means it can still reach the ocean. This is independent of all the best efforts of the shipping industry.
