The updated BIMCO Shipping KPI will be released within the first quarter of 2018.
BIMCO Shipping KPI development and status
The BIMCO Shipping Expert group is currently working on the last part of the update of the BIMCO Shipping KPI System and standards, as well as improving the user interface. The plan is to implement and release the updated BIMCO Shipping KPI in the first quarter of 2018.
If you are not a BIMCO Shipping KPI user or if you haven’t signed up for KPI news, please visit https://www.shipping-kpi.org/news and subscribe on the top left corner of the screen.
The Expert Group is currently, among other things, reviewing and updating the Shipping Performance Indexes (SPI) in order to give a review of the Performance Indicators (PI) and the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) carried out over the past two years.
One of the next improvements for BIMCO member users, is that access to www.shipping-kpi.org will be via the BIMCO website, so sign in will be easier. This function is due to be introduced later this year.
Monthly random shipping KPI – KPI005
KPI005: CO2 efficiency
This KPI expresses the energy efficiency of the ship by comparing emitted mass of CO2 to the ship’s total transport work.
The expression gives the emitted mass of CO2 per tonne cargo transported one mile. As the PI Value ’Emitted Mass CO2’ is given in tonnes, the figure is multiplied by 1 million to get the KPI value in g/transport work (tonne mile, passenger mile, TEU mile, etc).
KPI005 is measured in 'g/[Cargo Unit] Mile'.
KPI005 Value Calculation Example
||Emitted mass of CO2:
||= 130,500 tonnes
||= 20,710,647,000 tonne miles
