Coronavirus (COVID-19) - Tokyo and Indian Port State Control Regimes issue guidance
Overview
The Tokyo and Indian MOU have issued press releases providing guidance on how extensions can be granted in relation to port state control inspection carried out on ships.
The Tokyo and Indian MOU have issued press releases advising that due to the coronavirus outbreak, all requests and issues would be handled on a case-by-case basis by the relevant port State Authority.
It is important to note that the flag State and/or the recognised organisation(RO) is involved in the application process and owners/operators/ship managers must provide a plan or process containing equivalent solutions to address the COVID-19 situation and letters of dispensation or exemption issued by the flag State or RO. A grace period not exceeding 3 months for delayed surveys, inspections or audits is expected to be granted.
