Peter Sand will be partaking as a panellist on analysing the outlook of the containerised shipping market, a panel session which is scheduled for 10:45 to 11:45 AM. The session will furtherly include CEO of Hapag-Lloyd Rolf Habben Jansen, Alan Murphy, CEO and Co-founder of Sea-Intelligence and lastly Mark Szakonyi, Executive Editor of The Journal of Commerce and IHS Markit, who will chair the discussion.
The session will analyse the outlook for container shipping and the many factors affecting the future. Focus will be around profitability, capacity-demand balance and challenges unique to the different trade lanes.
BIMCO has low expectations for demand growth in 2019, partly due to increased trade tensions and political uncertainty, which will negatively impact the containerised shipping market. Furthermore, weakness has been witnessed in the intra-Asian trade, hinting towards low volume growth on the long-haul trades in the upcoming peak season. When accounting for the low demand growth, BIMCO foresees that the container shipping industry is set to be stuck in a low return business environment.
The session will take place at the JOC Container Trade Europe on the 16th to 18th of September in Hamburg, Germany. More information about the venue can be found here.

Veritas Petroleum Services (VPS) publish regular Bunker Alerts based entirely on fuel samples and have kindly permitted BIMCO’s Members to access this information.
The Bunker Alerts are not intended to be an evaluation of overall bunker quality in the port or area concerned, but usually highlight a specific parameter within the fuel which has raised a quality issue.
