Port reception facilities and port state control on the agenda

Overview

IMO will hold its 4th Sub-committee meeting on Implementation of IMO instruments (III) the so called III 4 meeting 25 to 29 September 2017.

The IMO Sub-committee on Implementations of IMO Instruments deals with the effective, global implementation and enforcement of IMO instruments in relation to maritime safety, security and the protection of the marine environment. The subcommittee monitors and assesses flags, ports and coastal states’ implementation of IMO instruments. The sub-committee also considers why provisions of some IMO instruments are difficult to implement and how to overcome the different issues. The most visible work of the sub-committee is the analysis of investigation reports into marine casualties and incidents.

BIMCO will participate in the meeting where the agenda includes several important items.

The sub-committee will:

  • discuss the inadequacy of port reception facilities
  • consider lessons learned from serious marine casualties and incidents
  • review the reports from the nine different regional Port State Control regimes

A brief report on the outcome of the meeting will be published shortly after the meeting.
