Sea Carrier Initiative Agreement (SCIA) no longer operational

After a period of uncertainty about the fate of the Sea carrier initiative Agreement (SCIA), United States Customs & Border Protection has now confirmed, that SCIA is no longer operational.

BIMCO restructures committees to balance safety and environment

BIMCO’s committee structure will change to reflect the increased importance of the environment while maintaining a thorough debate on safety. The BIMCO Board of Directors agreed to the change at a meeting in December.

BIMCO and ICS publish new cyber security guide for crew on board

BIMCO and the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) have published a new cyber security workbook meant to serve as a guide for the master and officers on board ships and thereby help them prepare for a potential cyber incident.

MDAT-GoG establishes new website

Ships operating in the Gulf of Guinea can benefit studying the new website run by the UK/French security reporting centre MDAT-GoG (Maritime Domain Awareness for Trade for the Gulf of Guinea). It is also highly recommended to report ship's movements, suspicious observations and security incidents immediately as they occur.

Douala, Cameroon - army security for vessels on arrival

Vessels heading for Douala, Cameroon now will have protection in the form of  army security team provided by the port authorities for their safety.

Safety at Sea and BIMCO publish cyber security white paper

Safety at Sea and BIMCO have published a white paper containing advice based on results and findings from Cyber Security Surveys produced over the last four years, as well as on feedback and knowledge from experts at roundtable events.
