BIMCO's chief shipping analyst, Peter Sand will be partaking as a panellist on analysing the outlook of the containerised shipping market, a panel session which is scheduled for 10:45 to 11:45 AM.

The session will furtherly include CEO of Hapag-Lloyd Rolf Habben Jansen, Alan Murphy, CEO and Co-founder of Sea-Intelligence and lastly Mark Szakonyi, Executive Editor of The Journal of Commerce and IHS Markit, who will chair the discussion.

Container shipping outlook
The session will analyse the outlook for container shipping and the many factors affecting the future. Focus will be around profitability, capacity-demand balance and challenges unique to the different trade lanes.

BIMCO has low expectations for demand growth in 2019, partly due to increased trade tensions and political uncertainty, which will negatively impact the containerised shipping market. Furthermore, weakness has been witnessed in the intra-Asian trade, hinting towards low volume growth on the long-haul trades in the upcoming peak season. When accounting for the low demand growth, BIMCO foresees that the container shipping industry is set to be stuck in a low return business environment.

BIMCO’s shipping market analysis team takes the outset of global macroeconomics in the analysis of global seaborne trade. Through the analysis of the commercial markets for dry bulk, tanker and container shipping, they assist management, members and clients with insights into the many different aspects of the global shipping industry.

A private meeting with Peter Sand can be arranged, who can be contacted at PS@BIMCO.org.
