Carborundum

Description
A hard compound of carbon and silicon, in crystalline form (small to huge sizes) appearing from transparent to opaque and in colours from pale green to deep blue or black. Odourless and not affected by acids. Moisture: none. Used in grains and powers of the abrasive kind for cutting, grinding, polishing etc. Also used in making coated abrasive products, grinding wheels and refractory grains etc. Bulk density: 1,786 kg/m3.
Trade Names (Synonyms)
Silicon carbide - carbon silicide - carborundeum -crystar, silicon monocarbide - silundum - Betarundum.
